Carrefour in Jawad Dome will be free from single-use plastic bags

CarrefourCarrefour hypermarket in Jawad Dome, Budaiya is set to be the retailer’s most eco-friendly in the Kingdom. The store will be free from single-use plastic bags and offer biodegradable alternatives made from cassava instead, in addition to offering a range of reusable bags.

When complete, Carrefour’s hypermarket in Barbar will mark its 13th store in Bahrain overall. This came during a discussion by Carrefour, operated in Bahrain by Majid Al Futtaim, with representatives from the Northern Municipal Council, led by President Ahmed Al-Kooheji to discuss various opportunities for greater collaboration around sustainability.

Al-Kooheji praised Majid Al Futtaim during the meeting, for its role within the community and made note of Carrefour’s store in Barbar in particular.

“We are looking forward to working together with Majid Al Futtaim and hope to have a strategic and strong partnership that can raise awareness on various sustainable and environmental projects that the Northern Municipal Council is striving to be active in,” said Ahmed Al-Kooheji, Chairman of the Northern Municipal Council.

“Sustainability is a core element of our business, and we are keen on aligning our efforts with those of the Northern Municipal Council. We are grateful for their visit, as together we can continue to be a driving force behind our shared goals of educating the public on the harmful effects of single-use plastics while encouraging them to opt for greener alternatives,” said Jerome Akel, Country Manager of Carrefour in Bahrain at Majid Al Futtaim Retail.

Bahrain’s MODA Mall signs up new luxury brands

MODA MallBahrain’s luxury shopping destination, MODA Mall has added four new tenants to its thoughtfully curated luxury line-up of over 80 fashion and 50 jewellery brands – including international and local – available through 150 outlets in the mall.

The mall has successfully signed up three lifestyle brands, including TUMI, a global travel brand offering premium leather products and accessories; S.T. Dupont, a French luxury manufacturer of leather goods; and LodinG, a high-quality shoes and menswear apparel brand.

In addition, an exclusive Rolex Service Centre has also opened in MODA Mall offering professional maintenance and care for Rolex watches. As for enhancing its food & beverage offerings, having recently introduced the Flat White café, the mall will further look into introducing more high-end dining experiences and ‘grab & go’ stores to increase the choice of culinary options for its visitors. It is also in the process of finalising retail offers that are in line with new market trends and customer requirements.

As MODA Mall focuses on expanding the scope of upscale retail offerings in Bahrain, Paul Nathan, director – head of real estate asset management for MODA Mall and Bahrain World Trade Centre reiterates that the strategy of repositioning the mall as the Kingdom’s only luxury retail destination has proved to be a huge success given the overwhelming response from luxury brands choosing to partner and showcase their products at MODA Mall.

Arabian Centres signs up Muvi Cinemas

Arabian CentresArabian Centres, one of the largest operators of lifestyle destinations in Saudi Arabia, has signed an agreement with Muvi Cinemas, the first locally created cinema chain in the Kingdom. Following the partnership, Muvi Cinemas will open multiplexes at four of Arabian Centres malls by the end of 2019.

The first will be at the Mall of Arabia in Jeddah where a 15-screen complex is near completion prior to its planned opening in the coming weeks. It will be followed by cinemas opening at Nakheel Mall in Dammam, Mall of Dhahran, Al Hamra Mall in Riyadh and the new boulevard mall complex U-Walk that will open in the capital later this year.

Through 2020, Arabian Centres will continue to expand its partnership with Muvi Cinemas and launch an additional 10 malls and will be bringing the movie experience to 8 Saudi cities over the next 24 months bringing the cinema experience to 250 screens. The range of movie experiences available will include the ScreenX, Junior, Suites and bespoke Xperience.
